The decisions about what college to attend and what career to pursue are certainly among the most important decisions a young person and his or her parents must make. Considering the complexity and the long-term implications of such decisions, it is crucial that they are based on solid information about the student.
Each student should ask:
· What are my natural abilities?
· What do my abilities suggest about an ideal career?
· What does my temperament tell me about compatible work setting
· What are my strongest interests?
· What goals do I have for my life after school?
· How do I build a guiding vision for myself?
· How do I learn about careers that might be a good fit for me?
A career assessment process that yields answers to these important questions can set the stage for an easier transition to the next stage of life. When a young person is equipped with enhanced self-knowledge and confidence about direction, he or she is better able to navigate the future and take advantage of the educational, internship, and career opportunities that await.
